Ben-Hur 2010

What?

WHAT?!?!

So, watching TV over the Easter holiday, I saw Ben-Hur on the channel guide. “Yes!” I thought. “I love that movie!”

But when I flipped it on, it was not the Ben-Hur I remembered.

When I flipped it on, I saw Joseph-Freaking-Morgan as Ben-Hur and thought…

I didn’t know what to think.

I wasn’t sure what kind of emotion. I mean, this is Ben-Hur we’re talking about!!! They RE-DID it?! WHY?! Why did they have to? Ben-Hur was perfect as it was!

But I’m nothing if not curious, so I sat down to watch.

And watch.

And watch some more.

OMG I ❤ it!!!! The scenery, the acting, the story staying true to its original form… I love it! AAAHHH!!!

But there was only one on TV. And apparently, according to the IMDB God, there are two episodes of this TV mini-series.

If you don’t know Ben-Hur, a prince is betrayed by his life-long Roman friend because this Roman dude wants to look uber-tough to his superiors. Ben-Hur ends up a slave for a while, and takes a good old-fashioned journey in which he makes new friends and laments the old, and learns a bunch of terrible things that have been done to his family in his absence.

Ben-Hur’s story is Biblical based on the setting, but also based on a couple of momentary encounters he has with Jesus Christ. Ultimately, it’s the story of a person living in Jesus’ time, showing the effect the Christ had on all the people around him. It’s a great story, and I recommend you watch the original before this one, because I’ve been true to that version since I first saw it at age 10.

But as for this one… well, my local video store may be scoured this afternoon for Joseph Morgan’s pretty face as Judah Ben-Hur.

In conclusion… do I live under a rock? Opinions? Anyone else have any clue how I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THIS?! Hahaha. 🙂

  1. I didn’t know there was another version either. I see some other familiar faces in the background, too. Makes me want to track it down, too…

  2. It was REALLY good. I didn’t catch the entire thing, but that just leaves me wanting more Joseph Morgan. I mean… uh… yeah, that’s exactly what I meant. LOL

  3. As a fan of the original, I’m skeptical. I mean…Charlton Heston…Mr. Angst-voice himself…how do you top that?

However, I popped over to Netflix and found that the mini-series came out on disk just a few days ago. Yes, it’s in my queue. 😉
